Orienteering Scavenger Hunt
Mason Mill Park contains a 100-acre forest with many surprises. This self-guided scavenger hunt will help you find ruins from the 1930s, fairy houses, gnome homes, decorated Christmas trees, interesting graffiti, abandoned vehicles, and many other unusual things. But to find these spots, you’ll have to use your wits to solve clues and your compass-orienteering skills to find the way. Are you up to the challenge?

What you need
1. No registration is needed. This experience is available to do at your own pace, whenever you like during the Festival, March 13-27.
2. Download and bring the scavenger hunt instructions [PDF] (also available at the trailhead) and watch this video.
3. Comfortable walking shoes & clothes appropriate for the weather
4. A snack and water
5. A smartphone with a camera & compass app (or a compass and a camera)
6. Your wits
Where to start
Mason Mill Park is located at 1340 McConnell Drive, Decatur, GA 30033. This scavenger hunt begins on the South Peachtree Creek PATH Trail which has a trailhead in the park near the DeKalb Tennis Center at the intersection of McConnell Drive and Mason Mill Road. The PATH trail has two information kiosks. This adventure begins near the southern of the two kiosks, which was built by Eagle Scout Aneesh Gupta. You’ll know you’re in the right place by finding Aneesh’s Eagle Project plaque and Atlanta Science Festival info boxes.
