Spill the Tea: Kitchen Science in Action
Registration is now closed, however you may still join the event on Today’s Schedule at the start time. Have you ever wanted to learn more about the speed of light and pH indicator chemistry? Do you want to learn how to make mug cakes and butterfly peaflower tea from the comfort of your home? If you said yes to either or both of those questions, then join the Georgia Tech STEMComm team for the tastiest science demonstration in Atlanta! At this event, our team will take you step by step through the process of how to make a mug cake and steep butterfly peaflower tea, while discussing how to find the speed of light with chocolate and how pH impacts the color of tea. All you need is a microwave (perfect for a dorm room "kitchen"!), and there will be options available for any dietary restrictions (gluten-free, vegan, etc.). Mailed kits are no longer available. You can still register to attend for free and purchase the listed materials yourself. Note that some materials may be harder to acquire and may limit your participation if you do not have them. Common kitchen items needed but not included in kit: A mug Microwave Several small bowls For every mug cake, you will also need: 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour 2 tablespoons sugar 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 4 tablespoons milk (or dairy-free milk) 1 1/2 tablespoons flavorless oil (sunflower, vegetable or coconut oil) 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional) Kit includes: Chocolate bar Lemon juice Sodium Alginate Calcium Chloride Butterfly Pea Flower Tea
